Question of the Week

Question
of the
Week

Our question comes from an Arbinger Community member. He asks:

When you're in the box, is it better to say (or do) nothing rather than to speak up and attempt to make a situation better?

We would love to feature your question, too. Please contact us at questions@arbinger.com.

Do you get In the Box when around others who are in THEIR boxes? 9 Replies

I try really hard to respect other people and be open to their ideas. But when I notice someone who doesn't seem to have any respect for those around them; someone who is, I guess we'd say, in a Be...

Perspectives Gained Through Trials of Life's Uncertainties

I was deeply humbled this week as I learned of an experience my cousin and his wife are going through, watching their newborn undergo major surgery to correct a serious heart defect. He wrote of the mixed emotions of elation and melancholy they experienced as they reflected on the fact that their child was spared when all around them were grieving parents whose child’s surgery was not successful and children who walked the halls of the hospital with terminal cancer or other ailments that might s… Continue

The Missing Ingredient

The film The Ramen Girl tells the story of Abby, a twenty-something American women who is stranded in Tokyo after being dumped by her boyfriend. She decides to stay. To earn a living, she begs a tyrannical Japanese ramen chef, who doesn’t speak a word of English, to teach her the art of making ramen. In Japan, ramen making is a high art.

Abby and her teacher clash, but the ramen master begins to soften towards Abby. Yet, despite all of her hard work, Abby cannot make a decent ramen bowl.… Continue

Nurturing Physical Pain in Self-Deception

It's alarming what you can discover when you're willing to ponder your life and watch yourself deeply.

I have advanced osteoarthritic degeneration, localized in a couple joints. It doesn't matter much where, except that there are days with pain and days without.

What I've discovered over the last few years is that I can sometimes decide how much pain I'm going to be in on a given day. It's been a sobering discovery.

I have to stop here and say that I would never look upon someone else in pain… Continue

Looking for stories for new Arbinger book--who can share?

Hi everyone,

We are preparing to write the next Arbinger book. This book will cover the time period between the story in Anatomy of Peace and the story in Leadership & Self-Deception. This one will be the story of how Lou transformed his life and his company based on the ideas he learned when he took his son, Cory, to the treatment program in Anatomy. If you think of Arbinger's service lines, L&SD is Arbinger's anchor book for its Leadership & Teambuildin… Continue
